Four young players from Battswood Baseball Club are set to take the next step in their baseball journeys after earning selection to the Western Cape teams for the upcoming national championships in Gauteng later this March.
Diego Galant, Zack Dreyer, and Jordan Booysen will represent the province in the under-12 category, while Tagon Swartz has been named in the under-15 side.
Their selections mark a proud moment for the club and highlight the steady growth of youth baseball pushed by Battswood in the Parkwood community, where the four boys are from.
For many young players, the journey to provincial level demands long training sessions and travel costs that can place strain on families already navigating financial challenges.
Yet through dedication, support from coaches, and the backing of their club, these players continue to chase their dreams even though they are still in need of financial support to get to the nationals.
Their selection is not only a reward for hard work on the field, but also a reminder of how sport can open doors and create opportunities for young athletes determined to make something of their talent.
To support the four players, send a WhatsApp to Battswood club secretary Deidrè Marquard on 083 570 0777 or email battswoodbaseballclub@gmail.com
