Stormers superstar, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, was named Sportswoman-of -the-Year at the Cape Town Sport Council's annual awards ceremony, at the weekend.  The event brought together administrators, coaches, athletes, and community leaders from across the city at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14.

The Springboks flyhalf’s award comes two months after he was named players’ player-of-the-year by MyPlayers, the official professional players organisation for SA rugby players. He now becomes a favourite to be named Western Cape sportsman-of-the-year at a function scheduled to take place in Paarl, at the end of the month, with the winner then eligible for nomination for the national sportsman-of-the-year later this year.

Leah Jones, captain of the Western Province Women's side that won the T20 title and is in contention to defend it this season, was named Sportswoman of the Year.

Tafelsig's Gergory Baker was named volunteer-of-the-year at the Cape Town Sport Council’s awards function, held at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, on Valentine's Day on Saturday February 14.

Muller is currently in Georgia with the Junior Springboks squad.

Gregory Baker, a resident of Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain, was named  Volunteer-of-the-Year for his commitment and dedication to the Manyanani Chess Club.

But it was SAFA Cape Town that scooped the lion’s share of the awards, taking four honours, including the prestigious Federation-of-the-Year title.

Zodwa Deliwe, manager Cape Town Roses Women's FC, collected the award for sports team-of-the-year, at the Cape Town Sport Council’s awards function, held at the Royal Cape Yacht Club, at the weekend.

Professor Marion Keim, guest speaker at the function, delivered a powerful call for unity, leadership and social responsibility in her keynote address.

In her speech, Keim, who also serves on projects linked to Unesco, reminded those in attendance that sportspeople are not only competitors but also public role models who shape behaviour and values in society.

“We live sport, and we represent sport. Every single encounter matters. Every interaction across cultures is an opportunity to develop people’s skills and understanding,” she said.

Shanaaz Rawoot of the Western Province Fancy Pigeon Federation was named sport administrator-of the-year at the weekend's Cape Town Sport Council’s awards function held at the Royal Cape Yacht Club.
