Cape Town Softball Association’s (CTSA) Ladies Major League log-leaders, Lavender Hill Softball Club, bagged two more wins over the weekend.
Lavender Hill beat Tantasport 11-0 and Glenthorn A’s 7-0 on Saturday, January 25, and Sunday, January 26.
Coach Marlene Petersen’s side displayed grit and camaraderie against tough opponents.
“It wasn’t the best of performances but the team did well in both matches. We were struggling to hit a bit but we adjusted well. They play together as a team. They are always together. It was tough because it was hot,” said Petersen.
The wins will be a great confidence booster for Lavender Hill heading into their next match against an on-form Westridge Yankees, on Saturday February 8, at the Turfhall sports complex.
The Yankees will be as confident after being unbeaten in their last three encounters, which includes a 10-5 win over Tantasport the previous Sunday.
This week, however, seven of Lavender Hill’s ladies team will join a combination of players from the CTSA who will jet off to Gauteng to participate at the Gordon Monk Softball Tournament.
“It’s always an honour to coach the side. It’s a very good tournament especially for the players that want to be selected for the provincial teams. We’ve been practising on Sundays, our last training is on Tuesday evening then we leave on Thursday,” said Petersen.
