GoalMOUTH is a weekly feature placing the spotlight on various sporting codes, tackling the brutal truth and chasing their rivals — those who try to evade a bit of banter… It’s all about the banter!
Imagine having the opportunity to choose from one of the best leagues in the World and then choosing World Class players, but they perform like a bunch of party animals that turned up for the game 30 minutes prior to kick off.
That basically sums up the England situation at the moment and I honestly and truly thought that with a youthful, world class team such as this, Euros and possibly the next World Cup was theirs. They managed to pull off a final, but nobody was really convinced.
Not when you have a manager such as Gareth Southgate. Please man, it’s even boring for me to say that name.
Okay, the man has decided to “step down” before he was actually axed, smart move actually because a headline reading: “Gareth steps down,” sounds way better than “Gareth sees his behind”. Shouldn’t be so harsh hey, but who cares.
The man has produced some of England’s worst football – boring, flat and not entertaining at all. He might hold the record for the manager with most “boos” from his own fans.
Southgate has never had a problem with players, but I tend to question his style and can only see it as a ball of confusion.
Youthful players being told to hang back and slow down the game? If you are young and energetic, shouldn’t you be set free for a natural free flowing game?
Many would argue that the only reason why Southgate is still there is because he is being heavily underpaid and doesn’t have a problem with it. If the English FA can save a buck, let’s produce boring football.
If that is the case, there really is no reason to brag about the English Premier League being the best in the world, as that is based off the fact that the world comes to play in England.
Again, England does not have a bad squad at all, in fact, they are the possible favourites at every competition with a squad like this. Saka, Foden, Bellingham, Rice mixed with some young blood such as Mainoo, Eze, Palmer and then oldies such Kane. Kane really is the only oldie consistently in the team and he has his fair share of bad luck when it comes to titles.
The problem is, if you take a manager with no real big match temperament and having been a mediocre player himself, how do he expect to get the best out of this team?
It was as clear as day that he was going to be sacked as he would have already been, had it not been for a 95th minute equaliser by Bellingham and then a winner from Kane, Gareth would have headed south towards the gate. You get it?
Nevertheless, after securing a big bank account over the years with the English, he could now join a small English Premier League team where he could possibly redeem himself.
Gareth, if you are reading this, just stay away from GoalMOUTH’s beloved Manchester United team. Join Liverpool, they have a history of picking up everybody else’s scraps.
