Thabiso Kutumela says he was losing his passion for the game during his brief, unsuccessful stint with the reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Kutumela recently completed a free transfer from Sundowns to KwaZulu-Natal outfit Richards Bay FC.
He spent last season on loan at Cape Town City after struggling for game time at Rulani Mokwena’s Sundowns, where he was expected to be an important player after joining them Maritzburg United in 2021.
It was in the colours of the KZN Midlands side that Kutumela played his best football that eventually brought him to the attention of the Brazilians. However, that the move to Tshwane turned out sour for the forward.
Explaining the move back to KZN, Kutumela said he still felt he had something to give, despite spending a large portion of his Sundowns career on the bench.
“You know why I wanted to move … It was because I was getting to a point where I’m losing this thing in my heart for playing football. I was losing interest in it,” the 31-year-old Kutumela was quoted by Hollywoodbets.
“It was going to be hard for me to find a team if I was sitting for two seasons without playing.
“I told myself that I still wanted to play this thing that I started. I still want to finish as highly as I possibly can. I took a risk with the loan to Cape Town City so that it could help me in the future,” Kutumela, who played for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates between 2016 and 2019, said.
