Cape Town City on Tuesday announced that Eric Tinkler left his position as head coach by mutual consent.
City lost 1-0 at home to AmaZulu FC at Cape Town Stadium in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday, in what would prove to be Tinkler’s final match in charge.
The result left City 12th on the log with 11 points from their first 10 games of the season.
The club which has been consistently in the top eight over the last three seasons now find themselves just two positions above the drop zone.
“Cape Town City and head coach Eric Tinkler have mutually agreed to part ways. The club expresses gratitude towards Eric for the last three seasons where he presided over 2nd, 4th and 5th place finishes. We wish Eric the very best for the future,” City said in a statement.
“The club will announce a new interim coach as we build up to an exciting new project for the 25/26 season and beyond.”
City have scored just six goals in the league this season, with only three other teams having scored fewer. Two of those sides are Richards Bay and Magesi FC who occupy the bottom two spots on the log.
After their loss over the weekend, Tinkler bemoaned his side’s inability to score goals as he spoke specifically about a number of individuals who were struggling.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder Tinkler was in his second stint as coach with City, after leading the team in the 2016/2017 season.
During his coaching career, Tinkler has also taken charge of Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Maritzburg United.
