As the year draws to a close, GQ South Africa hosted its 7th annual Men of the Year Awards, a prestigious event dedicated to celebrating the nation’s most outstanding innovators, influencers, and boundary-pushers.

This gala not only paid homage to remarkable achievements across various sectors but also showcased the impact these trailblazers have on the cultural landscape of South Africa.

The night was a star-studded affair, with a diverse line-up of those who were honoured ranging from iconic media personalities and artists to revolutionary entrepreneurs and athletes.

Each award highlighted the profound contributions of these individuals, whose influence resonates far beyond their respective fields.

Two Lifetime Achievement Awards were notably presented to distinguished figures—Wilson B. Nkosi and Omar Badsha. Nkosi, a legendary voice on South African radio, has entertained and informed the public over decades, while Badsha's artistry and activism have not only enriched South Africa’s cultural tapestry but have also spurred social change.

This year’s Woman of the Year award, presented by Nungu Diamonds, was bestowed upon Nomzamo Mbatha. A dynamic blend of entertainment, entrepreneurship, and activism, Mbatha has become a beacon of hope and empowerment, inspiring women across the nation.

The evening also featured the Editors Special Tribute Award, awarded to Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh, who has established himself as a powerful voice in South African politics. Alongside him, the Editors Special Award celebrated football hero Lucas Radebe, lauded for his integrity and skill, marking him as an enduring icon of the sport.

Innovation was prominently recognised in categories such as Game Changer of the Year, which went to Neo Hutiri, the visionary behind Technovera, a start-up transforming healthcare access across the continent. Meanwhile, in the music industry, rising superstar Tyla was named Entertainer of the Year, capturing the essence of a generation's appetite for fresh sounds.

In the realm of media, Anele Mdoda and Antonio Lozzo were both honoured as Industry Icons of the Year, underscoring their unparalleled influence in broadcasting and business, respectively.

The evening also spotlighted crucial social initiatives with the Humanitarian Award going to the initiative What About the Boys?, challenging harmful stereotypes associated with masculinity.

The People's Choice Award celebrated content creator Primo Baloyi, while the Rising Star accolade was given to Wiseman Zitha, marking him as a talent to watch in entertainment.

GQ’s Designer of the Year was awarded to pioneering fashionista Wanda Lephoto, who has become synonymous with luxury and sustainability in South African fashion. The Musician of the Year accolade went to Kabza De Small, a titan in the Amapiano genre, known for intertwining various musical influences into his revolutionary sound.

The Sports person of the Year award recognised both Relebohile Mofokeng, a promising talent in football, and Eben Etzebeth, a rugby giant contributing at an international level.

The Business Leader Award was presented to Marlon Parker, whose remarkable efforts through the Reconstructed Living Lab have positively impacted millions globally.
