Peres Jepchirchir won the women’s race at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, 7 November.
She crossed the finish line in a time of 2:22:39.
This is another victory for the African long-distance runner, who triumphed in the marathon distance at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in August.
The 26-year-old is also the former women's half-marathon record holder. She clocked 1:05:16 at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships in Gydnia, Poland.
When she won the New York City Marathon, she was wearing the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2, a shoe popular amongst Olympians due to its innovative, science-backed long-distance running performance.
To celebrate Peres’s victory at the New York City Marathon, adidas has released a short film featuring documentary-style footage of the long-distance runner.
It speaks to her rebellious optimism and the power of sports to change lives.
Peres’s journey began as a young child when she’d run to school in Kenya and progressed at age 13 when she started to take the sport seriously. She’s shown that by rising through the ranks of the running world, anything is possible. Peres inspires the next generation of runners around the world.
