Child Protection Week marked

Tramway Football Club, in Southfield, has members from all over the Cape Flats including children from Parkwood, Grassy Park, Retreat, Steenberg, Lavender Hill, Capricorn. The little ones at Selwyn Educare Centre, a project of the Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development Foundation, in Vrygrond performed the play Little Red Riding Hood to illustrate the concept of “stranger danger”. Mymoena Scholtz, founder of Where Rainbows Meet, said they had discussed the importance of parents' involvement, effective communication between parent and child, and different methods of communication with their children. Safeline Child Abuse Treatment and Prevention Centre and The Vrygond ECD Forum honoured 250 ECD children in Vrygrond. “Safeline had a fun and educational play of little Red Riding Hood, empowering children to keep safe. Children were empowered on what to do should anything happen, is to shout, run and tell an adult they trust,” said Faranaaz Johnston chairperson of the Vrygrond ECD Forum. A number of organisations held awareness programmes on Friday June 6, to highlight the National Child Protection Week which is commemorated from May 29 to June 6 in South Africa. The aim of the annual campaign is to raise awareness of the rights of children.
