A representative of the Oasis NPO attended the Berlin Forum and Football for Sustainability Summit, in Germany, earlier this month.

Lynn Damons, who is head of administration for Oasis, left on Sunday July 7.

Besides representing Oasis, Ms Damons is a youth council member of Common Goal, an organisation whose main objective is to look at ways to strengthen youth involvement within organisations across the world.

Ms Damons, from Pelican Park, said she had been empowered by the event.

“I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to represent Oasis and South Africa on a global stage at the Berlin Forum and Football for Sustainability Summit by Common Goal. Meeting individuals from every corner of the world, including football icons like Juan Mata and Rio Ferdinand, was a dream come true as a Manchester United supporter. The knowledge I gained from diverse sessions and seminars is invaluable; I am eager to apply these efforts at Oasis, to uplift the communities around us.”

Robin van Dieman, head of design and marketing at Oasis, said the sessions at the forum comprised education, climate change safeguarding youth leadership and best practice in football.

Oasis, established in 2000, empowers underprivileged youth through sports with a variety of programmes like street football and netball, and life skills workshops.
