TB HIV Care will be reaching out to the communities of Parkwood and surrounds to offer its services at Masjidus Sabr Mosque, Blackbird Avenue, in Parkwood, on Thursday July 17.

TB HIV Care is affiliated with the Department of Health and they are operating at Parkwood Clinic and Lotus River Community Centre.

This initiative highlights the ongoing collaboration between NGOs and the Department of Health to bring accessible, preventative care directly to Cape Town neighbourhoods.

Sister Jacky Kayles, a community nursing sister in Parkwood, said they are a group of carers who render services with home based care for people who have had strokes - they help bathe them. “We are informing the community on how to fight against the infections and spreading of Tuberculosis. We also offer breastfeeding support and pregnancy support.”

Ms Kayles said the Department of Health refered the outreach, where the carers will have discussions that will include the effect of teenage pregnancies, sexual reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, family planning methods, healthy relationships as well as discussions on HIV.

Ms Kayles said they would like to call upon the communities of Parkwood, Fairways and Southfield.

For more information about the outreach, call Sr Jacky Kayles at 074 030 5180 or team leader Sophia Meyer at 081 054 0638.
