Shooting in Freedom Park: One dead and four injured in tragic incident

A 36-year-old man died at the scene, in Freedom Park, while four others - aged between 19 and 36, and from Mitchell’s Plain and Hanover Park - were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Residents of Freedom Park informal settlement in Ottery were left shocked after five people were shot in Mopane Street on Friday, September 6.

According to Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka, a vehicle crashed into two shacks before shots rang out. A 36-year-old man died at the scene, while four others - aged between 19 and 36 and from Mitchell’s Plain and Hanover Park - were rushed to nearby hospitals.

The reason for the shooting is still unknown, and no arrests have been made.
