Mr Brickles said parents, family members, friends, and Ashtin’s teacher gathered to raise awareness and express concern about the current situation in the area.

“It was a very humbling experience to see a community and clubs unite for the common goal, which is a peaceful society where our kids are safe,” he said.

Provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said Muizenberg police registered a murder case for investigation after receiving a complaint of a shooting incident.

Upon arrival at the address, he said, the community pointed out the body of a juvenile boy lying in the road.

“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive is believed to be gang-related.”
