Steenberg police have opened a murder case after the body of a 22-year-old man was found in a shack on an open field on Joe Marks Boulevard early on Tuesday, January 27.
Western Cape provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said officers responded to a report of a shooting and, upon arrival at the scene, found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. The suspect or suspects fled the scene and have yet to be arrested,” said Sergeant Twigg.
Police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit tips anonymously via the My SAPS mobile application.
In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man was arrested for drug dealing following a police operation in Parkwood on Friday, January 23.
According to Grassy Park police spokesperson Sergeant Alridge Isaacs, members of the Grassy Park sector policing group received information about drugs allegedly being stored at a house in Cuckoo Crescent.
Police executed a search warrant at the address at about 7am. While officers were knocking and announcing their presence, the suspect was seen throwing a black bag out of a window.
Cocaine was found and confiscated by police.

“The premises were searched, and the suspect was arrested. The black bag was found to contain cocaine and dagga with an estimated street value of R30 000,” said Sergeant Isaacs.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
