When 9-year-old Keira Martin of Cafda’s G-Squared Performance Arts Movement qualified for her Western Cape colours at the Dance Sport School League (DSSL) in Cape Town, her journey to the national stage seemed daunting - until support came from an unexpected source.
Thanks to the KA Foundation, a non-profit company, based in Retreat, Keira and her mother, Remi Campher, were able to travel to Johannesburg to compete in the Hip Hop category, where Keira placed third overall in the Under-9 solo division on Sunday, October 5.
Ms Campher, who is unemployed, expressed her gratitude: “KA Foundation was a big help in raising funds for me to travel with Keira.”

Established in 2019, the KA Foundation began as a small initiative among staff at K and A Marketing, who were themselves facing reduced work hours. Motivated by the needs of their surrounding communities, the team expanded their efforts to support the less fortunate through food drives and donations in underprivileged areas such as Parkwood, Steenberg, and Phumlani.
“The spirit of giving only grew stronger with time,” said Kirk Arendse, founder of KA Foundation. “With support from friends, family, and like-minded individuals, we expanded our reach by donating hygiene packs and food parcels to the Douglas Murray Old Age Home in Retreat. We also provide weekly meals to Mandolin Place in Steenberg, the Village Care Centre in Lavender Hill, the Khoisan Kids programme in Lavender Hill, and the Retreat Haven Shelter.”
The foundation operates under four core pillars:
Through their work, the KA Foundation aims to bring hope and tangible support to underprivileged communities in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, uplifting lives through acts of kindness, structured outreach, and shared humanity.
The foundation invites the public to join its efforts through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, contributing to meaningful change in the region.
